During the 1950s, many Jewish refugees arrived in Israel. They lived in horrendous poverty, suffering from unemployment, racism, and discrimination by the State. This talk explores the living conditions of these Jews and the ways in which they overcame
the many obstacles entangled in their migration to a new homeland. This talk is based on intensive archival work in the Israeli State Archives.
