University Symphony Orchestra: Symphonic Seascapes
The University Symphony Orchestra opens 2014 with a concert of musical seascapes.

The USO’s opening concert of 2014 showcases a variety of Symphonic Seascapes from the 19th and early 20th centuries: Felix Mendelssohn’s stirring Hebrides Overture, a haunting depiction of Fingal’s Cave off the coast of Scotland; Sir Edward Elgar’s evocative Sea Pictures, a song cycle based on texts by five contemporary British poets; and Frank Bridge’s exquisitely orchestrated four-movement suite entitled simply The Sea. Mezzo-soprano Tracy Watson is the featured soloist in the Elgar. USO Music Director Barbara Schubert conducts.
