Restructuring the Global City
A symposium to explore polices shaping urban restructuring in the US and India.

Cost: Free
Registration Required: Alumni and Friends Event Website

The University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration and Tata Institute of Social Sciences are proud to cosponsor "Restructuring the Global City: A Symposium and Workshop."

The symposium will examine key policies and processes shaping urban restructuring in India and the United States, organized around three central themes. The first will explore policies of slum clearance and redevelopment and their impact on poor citizens' rights to the city. The second will examine the question of "appropriation"—the implications of urban restructuring on access to and the use and regulation of urban space. The third will examine the impacts and implications of urban restructuring on workforce participation and livelihood.

This symposium will be structured around a dynamic forum discussion, and, as a valued participant, you will be expected to join in the active conversations about these topics. Your professional expertise and insight will be of great value to the learning process of all participants. In addition to framing a comparative discussion based on current research and policy in each context, the symposium is intended to provide a foundation for possible collaborative, cross-national research. Following the event, attendees are also welcome to attend the University of Chicago Phoenixphest reception. Registration is required for both the symposium and the reception.
