Family Orientation
Family Orientation is a two-day event designed to provide parents with helpful information to aid in the transition of students into the University of Chicago.

Cost: Free
No Registration Required

As it has since 1934, the University of Chicago sets aside time before classes begin to provide all new students and their families with an introduction to the University. Family Orientation is spread over two-days and includes a wide-range of events, informational sessions, and special receptions. Time will be set aside for parents to help their student get moved-in to their residence hall, to explore the city of Chicago, and to engage in special campus traditions.

Parents are invited to participate in Class Day and Opening Day activities, which are just one part of Family Orientation. During Family Orientation, parents will have the opportunity to learn more about assisting your student in the transition to college, opportunities through Study Abroad and Career Advancement, health and wellness on campus, and more. Parents of new students will receive a mailing in July with more information about move-in and Family Orientation, along with a lot additional helpful information about life in the College. Please refer to the Family O-Book included in this mailing for check-in and event location information for both days.

After the conclusion of Family Orientation on Monday, students will continue participating in their own Orientation activities, during which time they will be fully engaged in required events. For more information about Orientation, visit our website,
