Partnering with Parents

As a parent of a student at the University of Chicago, you are considered to be an important part of the UChicago community. We invite you to get involved within this community, to seek out events on campus and in your area, and to give back to the university through volunteer opportunities or by making a gift. Parents are encouraged to build their own unique UChicago experience, and we offer numerous ways for you to do that.  Below are a just a few of the great opportunities awaiting you.

Volunteer Opportunities

As a Maroon Parent, you know how talented and wonderful the students at UChicago are.  Every year, parents are supporting the University's mission of fostering student success by giving of their time or by sharing the lessons you've learned through your career experiences with our students.  There are many ways that you can get involved as a volunteer, such as hosting a send-off party, helping to recuit new students, serving as a career mentor for students, or working at an event on campus.  If you are looking to serve as a volunteer, visit our Volunteer Connection website or keep an eye on the upcoming events section on this website.  We will feature upcoming volunteer opportunities on the homepage of this site throughout the year.

Mentor or Hire a Maroon

UChicago's Career Advancement is responsible for career development activities for students across the University.  Every year, they work with alumni, parents, and business and community leaders to provide unique opportunities for students to learn more about their career path and to secure opportunities for internships, externships, and to find jobs for UChicago graduates.  We think every business could benefit from bringing some more UChicago minds on board, whether for a few days, a summer, or a full-time position.  To learn more about opportunities for engagement through Career Advancement, visit the Recruit and Hire page on the Career Advancement website or find more information on the Parent and Family Website.

Explore Your Interests

When a student attends the University of Chicago, they explore the world of the mind in unique and exceptional ways.  But why should they have all the fun?  Parents of current students or alumni are also encouraged to make use of all of the great speakers, events, lectures, and opportunities the explore your interests that the University offers.  Parents are automatically considered to be a part of the UChicago Alumni Association and are invited to attend any of the great events on-campus or around the world that we offer.  You will find information on up-coming events on this website or you can look specifically for events in your area on the Alumni Association's Find an Event site.

Make a Gift

The generous gifts from parents enable the University of Chicago to continue to build on our commitment to providing a world-class education for our students.  The Parents Fund was established to have a direct impact on College programs.  Money raised by the Parents Fund helps to provide more financial aid for students, supports opportunities for international travel and internship experience, and plays an important role in enriching the student life across campus and in the House system.  Learn more about opportunities to make a gift to the College, as well as other opportunities for engagement, on our Parent Philanthropy website.

Get Involved in Your Region

The UChicago Parent Community was designed to provide a platform for parents to connect with one another and the University.  We hope that this site will be a helpful resource for parents to build relationships and to get involved with UChicago events, but we also encourage you to propose new groups and events in your area.  If you are interested in getting more involved in your region, check out some of the regional or affinity groups in the Networking menu above.  If you don't see one that's right for you, propose a new one.  Or you can use this site to advertise events appropriate for other UChicago parents by submitting an event yourself.  If you have questions about getting more involved with the UChicago Parent Community, let us know.
